Prepare a private document for AI.

1. Check whether sharing is permitted

Masking does not replace your organization’s permission, required consent or confidentiality rules. If a document must remain within your environment, do not send it to an external AI, even after masking.

2. Review details and context

Import text, a PDF, a Word document or a supported image. On an Apple Silicon Mac, the bundled model analyzes text on your computer. Check names, emails, numbers, amounts and details the engine may have missed. An unusual role or a precise description can identify someone even without their name.

3. Share only the text you approved

PreMask AI replaces selected details with placeholders such as [PERSON_1]. Read the result before copying it into ChatGPT, Claude or another tool. You send that text to your chosen provider, whose processing rules then apply. The source document and mapping remain in your local session.

4. Restore and review the reply

Return to the same session and paste the reply. Recognized placeholders are replaced with their original details. Changed or unknown placeholders may remain unchanged. Check the content and layout: PreMask AI does not verify the AI’s facts, calculations or recommendations.

Masking, anonymization and PDF redaction: what is the difference?

Reversible masking with a retained mapping is a form of pseudonymization. It does not guarantee anonymity. PreMask AI produces masked text for sharing; it does not guarantee visual or irreversible redaction of every layer in a PDF or image.

What you need

The current commercial edition targets M1 or newer Macs running macOS 13.3 or later. The local model is included, with no API key or Apple Intelligence subscription. Internet is needed for the account, purchase and initial activation. Intel and Windows editions remain private previews.
